Burger Bar Sauces

Labor Day BBQ Plans? We’ve got you covered. Whilst Donata is now full swing into the school year, I’m still clinging on to the last days of summer vacay for dear life, and going out with one last Hurrah. Labor Day weekend = burgers in my house, and what makes a good burger a great burger? Sauce. (And bacon, but that’s a given). As we’ve said before, a meal without a good sauce, is like a cookie without sprinkles, or as my father-in-law would argue, a kiss without a beard.

We’re bringing you three sauces for your Labor Day gathering requiring nothing other than fridge staples, spice cupboard ingredients and a bit of citrus. We also use these for finishing touches on appetizers, in sandwiches, as a dip for veggies, fries…you get the drift!

First up is Everything Sauce, our adaptation of @epicurious ‘Not-So-Secret Sauce’. We can’t really take any credit for this, all we did was add a little spice to an already winning sauce. We just love a little heat 🔥 .

Then we have a Za’atar Sauce for a Mediterranean feel, which we like to put on a lamb or chickpea burger. This also goes well with anything eggplant🍆 and jazzes up a pita sandwich or halloumi wrap.

And last but most certainly not least - and arguably the most versatile because it goes with everything - our Sriracha Mayo for an Asian twist. This is great on a salmon burger, or with a skewer of grilled shrimp. We also use this to top cauliflower and zucchini pancakes or drizzle over a rice bowl. So many options, right?!

But for now, however you choose to ring out the season, have some sauce and make it perfect. Xoxo Kirsty

(Adapted from Epicurious’ Not-So-Secret Sauce)

  • 1/4 cup (55 g) mayonnaise, we love Hellman’s

  • 1 -1/2 teaspoons pickle juice, from a jar of pickles - don’t go juicing pickles!

  • 1-1/2 teaspoons ketchup

  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard

  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika

  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder

  • 5-10 drops tabasco depending on your heat preference

Combine all the ingredients and refrigerate until ready to serve.

  • 1/4 teaspoon dried minced onion

  • 1/2 tablespoon za’atar seasoning

  • Zest and juice of 1/2 lemon

Combine all the ingredients and refrigerate until ready to serve.

Sriracha Mayo - Makes enough for 4-6 burgers

  • 1/4 cup (55 g) mayonnaise

  • 1 tablespoon sriracha

  • Zest and juice of 1/2 lime

Combine all the ingredients and refrigerate until ready to serve.
